Emma Mauri's Educational Philosophy
I believe that all students can learn the necessary skills to succeed later in life in a safe and caring environment. In order to be an effective teacher in the classroom we must know our students well. The learning process will occur naturally when teachers are resourceful, show support in the classroom and teach the necessary tools to be successful and productive citizens.
I became a teacher because I had wonderful, caring teachers who made a difference in my life. As a student from the inner city, I realized that higher education was the key to improve my life. My teachers who got to know me and dedicated the extra time to see me succeed helped to make me the person I am today. I believe educators can improve student’s lives.
My teaching style follows the school curriculum and includes a variety of strategies and different teaching methodologies. I recognize that not all students have the same skills and I implement different teaching methods to engage all my students. I use new technology to strengthen the learning process, which seems to come naturally to them. Students seem to grasp what we teach when they can connect with something relevant to them. I begin every lesson with familiar topics and ask questions about it. I get to know students individually and monitor their learning style though different assessments and use results to plan instructional activities. I strive to implement activities that include culture and all four-language skills necessary to learn the target language.
Every year my commitment to my students is one hundred percent, a fact my students are all aware of. I accept each one as they are and I make every effort to reach those who need more help. Showing that I truly care for each of them makes the connection between a teacher and a student easier.
My goal as a Spanish teacher is to see my students achieve their full potential and expose them to the Spanish speaking world. I strive to equip each student with the ability to speak and understand a new language and an appreciation of another culture, skills which will make them culturally diverse. This in turn will make them caring and responsible citizens of the world.
