Course Description
This course emphasizes oral and written communication. Students practice listening, conversation, writing/revising, and reading. Students are provided with a more in-depth study of grammar and are introduced to new grammar structures. You will read about people, places, and traditions from the Spanish speaking world. Students are also taught to develop higher thinking skills such as synthesis, analysis, and evaluation. Students will use various forms of technology (internet, television) to gather information necessary to complete individual and class projects and/or activities. Students are encouraged to speak Spanish as much as possible. Daily homework assignments are a course requirement.

Teaching Methods
This course will consist of lectures (grammar with explanations), oral drills, group and individual presentations, skits, cultural discussions, games, and various other instructional strategies. Students will be required to memorize and use vocabulary presented in the Units. For successful mastery of the material, students will be encouraged to read, listen, write and speak in the target language in class as much as possible.

Homework Description
Written and oral exercises will be assigned as a part of this course. Written assignments will be from the textbook, workbook, Internet or any other suitable material. Written assignments may include student-generated dialog, skits, poems and compositions. Compositions must be typed, using a font of 12 pt. minimum and be double spaced with correct headings that will be discussed in class. Late work will not be accepted, unless the student has an excused absence. Essays or projects turned in late will be assessed a penalty: 10 points out of 100 points will be deducted for every day that is late. Essays or projects will not be accepted if overdue by more than 5 days. Homework is due at the beginning of class on a day to day basis. Partial credit (50%) if you bring it on the next class day.

Tests And Quizzes
Tests will be given after every chapter, approximately every 3 weeks. There will be 2-3 quizzes every 3 weeks. It is important students study the material on a daily basis to ensure mastery of the subject (This may change during coronavirus crisis).
Late Work Policy
Students are expected to make up tests and quizzes according to the guidelines set forth in the Student Handbook. Students will receive a zero on any test or quiz not taken. It is the responsibility of the student to make up tests or quizzes within one week after an absence. RETAKES: The Foreign Language Department's policy, as approved and endorsed by TWHS, allows students to retake ONE failed EXAM per 9-week marking period. Quizzes cannot be retaken. Students may score a maximum of 75% on a retake. Please note that if you plan to retake a test, you must;1. Attend two hours of tutorials to correct misunderstood concepts, and
2. Plan to take the retest on the 8th week of a 9-week marking period, or the 7th week of a short marking period (Fall semester: MP1 and MP2 are 8 weeks long).
3. Schedule the retake to make sure your plans do not conflict with previously scheduled meetings or other after school commitments.

Technology and Academic Conduct Policy
Email: If you have problems with printers or sources, email me right away or send me your document via google doc. I will not mark it late if the assignment arrives before your class time. You can send me a message through Weebly, just fill out the form and I will try to answer you ASAP. Use google doc. to send assignments during virtual classes.
Classroom Devices: NO CELL PHONES OR ELECTRONICS ALLOWED IN CLASS but you will be able to use your cell phone when the teacher allows you to use it for a specific assignment, otherwise, it will be taken away for the rest of the day and you will receive a referral. Reminder: In addition to the message board in my website, you may also receive a reminder for projects and exams. |
Discipline: Academic dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated.

Students are expected to arrive to class promptly and be prepared with their textbook, assignments, and writing instruments. Students will receive a zero for the daily activities if they come unprepared and without supplies and school policies regarding discipline will be enforced. Tutoring
Students experiencing difficulties with the course are encouraged to come in for tutorials before or after school (7:00-7:15 a.m. or 2:30-3:00 p.m).
